In honor of Manuel V. Villafranca from Westfield, NJ, who passed away on September 3, 2023 at the age of 77, this Memorial Fund is being set up on the wishes of his wife Alicia, daughter Maria Isabel and son Raul and their families.

Originally from Bicol, he studied at Ateneo de Manila University and then the University of the Philippines College of Medicine graduating in 1971.  He trained in Psychiatry at UP-PGH and then St. Vincent’s Hospital in New York City before settling in New Jersey with his family in 1984 where he practiced and enjoyed the accolades of his colleagues as a top Psychiatrist because of his compassion, knowledge and leadership in many endeavors.

He was a proud member of the UP College of Medicine Class of ’71, serving as Past President of the UPMASA NJ/NY/CT Chapter, and throughout this life, he staunchly supported the projects of UPMASA to provide healthcare assistance and medical education in the Philippines.

He had long hoped to support UPMASA’s ongoing work more, which is why, in lieu of flowers, his family is proud to set up this Memorial Fund in his name to help build the unrestricted funds for the organization to use in areas most needed to continue with its mission of enhancing the education of Medical Doctors in the Philippines and to promote high standard of care for the patients served at the Philippine General Hospital.
